so today, i started a new job at the purdue wiley dining hall!
let me start from the beginning, while talking with our thrivent guy, he informed mike he needed to put me to work! i do not have enough points to collect social security, so it just makes sense i work on that:) since mike is not here during the week, it gives me something to do… i totally loved that i was able to stay home and raise my family as my career, and i wouldn’t change anything about my first 37 years of marriage:) i really mean that. God blessed us so richly and for that i am forever thankful…. onto my story… sitting at church during fellowship hour one sunday morning, one of my friends (who happens to be the head of the wiley dining court at purdue) said “so you want a job?” at that time she had no clue of our conversations about me needing to find a job and i really thought i sat at her table for a reason that morning!
she said come talk to me after you get back from minnesota, can i say i am pretty excited about this job:) finding a job that you have off the summer, holidays and breaks. i am working for the breakfast shift 5:30-10:30 monday through friday, with weekends off…everyone else works a rotating shift with having to work every 3rd weekend, it sure helps to know the girl who runs the whole place:) i cooked eggs today, cut tomatoes, shredded chicken, it will be different everyday, i am going to be a floater and help where they need help. the time flew by this morning, i think i won’t mind this at all:)
THANKS BARB YOU ARE THE BEST!
Not fair that women stay home to raise kids (most important job in the world next to teachers) and don’t get credit from the government/social security.
Not right, that needs to change. One of the reasons I went to work sooner.
i know that sucks!
we could give up SS for everyone and it’d be fair for everyone…gov’t wouldn’t (or couldn’t) play favorites.
politics aside…congrats on the job!
BTW, I meant sooner then I would have liked, not sooner then you. And @ eric, don’t want to get into a big political dispute (you too ed) just saying, if we are paying into and collectting SS, a potion of the spouses should go to stay at home parent. Or at least be an option….and yes, congrats on the job…very cool..could be a nice change.
yeah erik, i agree, i don’t think it is something we should need in our retirement! it’s nice to have, and i do think i earned it:)
